Habitat Expansion
Habitat Expansion is a rare tier 4 engineering technology (Voidcraft) in Stellaris 4.5.2. Its base cost is 10,000 research. It needs Orbital Habitats and Star Fortress. It unlocks Habitat Central Control and leads to Advanced Space Habitation. Console: research_technology tech_habitat_2.
What Habitat Expansion does
Modifiers as the game prints them, from the technology's modifier block; then the unlock lines its research card shows.
- +1Habitat Max Districts
What Habitat Expansion unlocks
Everything in the game files that lists this technology as a prerequisite; “condition” marks objects that check for it in their conditions instead.
How to get Habitat Expansion
Research in Stellaris is drawn: each area offers 3 cards at a time, weighted by each technology's draw weight (here 35) and its weight modifiers. Tier 4 opens after 6 tier 3 technologies of the same area. As a rare technology it is drawn less often, and some rare ones only appear after an event, a relic or a special project.

In the game
Our early habitats were primitive things compared to the efficient designs we can now develop.

How do I get Habitat Expansion in Stellaris?
Research Orbital Habitats and Star Fortress first (6 technologies in the whole chain); then Habitat Expansion can be drawn as one of the 3 engineering research options. It is a rare technology: its draw weight is low, and some are only offered after an event, a relic or a special project. It also has conditions (see Requirements on this page).
What does Habitat Expansion do?
It gives +1 Habitat Max Districts. It unlocks Habitat Central Control (building). It leads to Advanced Space Habitation.
What is the ID of Habitat Expansion?
The technology's ID is tech_habitat_2. To get it with the console: research_technology tech_habitat_2 (Stellaris 4.5.2).
How much does Habitat Expansion cost?
10,000 engineering research before modifiers. In game the cost grows with empire size (+0.2% per point above the base, common/defines) and the galaxy's tech cost setting.
